Dental sealants are an effective way to prevent pit and fissure caries. A dental sealant is a protective covering that is applied to the chewing surface of a tooth to prevent the formation of cavities. The sealant creates a barrier that bacteria can not penetrate and helps to fill tiny areas where plaque could build up that’s difficult for you to brush and floss away. This can help greatly in terms of cavity prevention.
The sealant can be easily applied in our office, quickly and painlessly. First your tooth is cleaned and a mild acid solution is used to etch the surface to make the sealant adhere to the tooth. Then the sealant is applied to the area and is cured with a light. The sealant is designed to last years and would be re-examined with every regular check-up.
