Tooth Removal
If you have a severely damaged tooth that can’t be restored with other treatments, it may need to be removed. This might be the best option to keep any decay the tooth is suffering from spreading to your other teeth.
Once a tooth is removed, it may be possible to replace it with a bridge or an implant.
The most recognized form of oral surgery is tooth extraction. Reasons for tooth extraction can include:
- impacted or partially erupted wisdom teeth
- teeth beyond repair either from tooth decay, root fracture, or trauma
- primary teeth that have failed to fall out, preventing the eruption of permanent teeth
- orthodontic treatment plans, which may require the removal of some teeth to reduce crowding and achieve the optimum result
- teeth affected by bone loss and severe gum disease
- teeth affected by tumors and cysts
- prior to radiation treatment of the head and neck regions for oral cancer
- complete denture treatment plans
- partial denture treatment plans that require reduced interference and maximum stability
